Hello,
I have been trying to register for the MIG welding class with Lee Jones this coming saturday but the system won’t let me. I get this message saying that I need to have the safety class first as a prerequisite for taking the class, but I did do that in november. So I was wondering if there is another way to register for the class before the the class is full?

Same problem. Chances are most people enrolled in safety class will stay for MIG. Any way you can allow enrollment in the system?

signed up for the morning safety class but system wont allow me to RSVP for the MIG class as I have not completed the safety class.

Anyone who has already taken the prereq safety class, please either contact the trainer directly and ask them to have you added to the group so you can register for the other classes - or open a “REQUEST” thread under the #issues-requests category (NOTE: Each individual must create their own “request” - no piggy backing off someone else’s request…).
Anyone who has not taken the prereq safety class will need to check with the trainer ahead of time to see what they suggest.

At the metal shop meeting yesterday I spoke with them and I have removed the prerequisite from the calendar system. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to take Welding Safety, just that it doesn’t check before sign up.
If you sign up and have not taken welding safety you will not receive a refund and are not allowed to take the class. It will tell you this before you sign up as well.
So go sign up for your classes and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Hmmm. Doesn’t seem to work for me on the MIG course offered on 1/21.
Does not work for the MIG class on 1/21/2017 - - have already taken the Welding Safety and TIG - - need to sign up for this MIG class and Stick Welding.

Running into the same issue when trying to RSVP for the MIG class on the 22nd of April. I have already signed up for the safety class on the same day.
I talked to Lee about this. In the future he is going to have the safety class after the MIG & TIG classes. What he was saying is that people would sign up for the safety class then not show up. Then those people that didn’t show to the safety class now go to the welding class. The safety class can have as many as 35 people, so it’s hard to know who has been & who hasn’t.

Do you know if it would be possible for me to stick around after the safety class so that I can take the MIG class?
It’s up to each instructor as to whether they allow stand-bys to register at the last minute if there are any no-shows. Since Lee does not use TALK much at all, your best bet would be to ask him when you see him during the Welding Safety Class.
I am closing this thread now, as most of the information was a result of some specific issues we were having with the welding classes scheduling before.
NOTE: If you receive an error about not having the Welding Safety prerequisite; but, you have in fact already taken the Welding Safety / Basics class (currently called: “DMS Welding processes and Safety”; but, the name of the class has varied a bit through time…), please be sure to include your username, date you took the class and who the instructor was (be sure to mention / “tag” them with their TALK username if you know it!).
