Recycling Copper & Brass

Hi!

I work with copper/brass rivets on my leather products and I have a bucket of bad rivet/burrs and cutoff pieces. When I was doing a tour I thought about possibly melting it and recycling it (I actually thought about making my own rivets and burrs, but after doing some research, it would be extremely time consuming for my use)

I’d just hate to throw it and I thought about maybe making a Ingot and possibly either selling it. Anyone familiar with the process?

I would not turn it into an ingot, just take it to a recycler. You’ll need some weight to make it worth your while and not all metal yards do copper and brass, so call ahead.

You will also want to separate the copper and brass. Copper is ~$3/pound, but brass will be 2/3 of that. Mixed will be even less than brass.
