I looked for this online but the suggestions didn’t help so I figured I’d ask here.
I have an illustrator file separated into about 16 layers. Each has a unique color filled in them but no stroke. I’ve exported this file as several different older and current versions of .ai. But each time I import the file int RD Works all the separate layers load as one layer and are all solid black.
What do you think is causing the layers to be combined and the colors to go to solid black? Is 16 layers too many? Is there a setting in RD Works to use the layers? Is there a version or .ai or RD Works that would work best?
It’s RGB. I saw a mention of that when I was searching for my issue. It was already RGB so just in case I chose some web friendly RGB colors as well. Didn’t help unfortunately.
What are you trying to do with the different color layers? My understanding is that RDWorks will see everything as black (cut) and white (don’t cut) when you import it. If you want to etch (scan) then you tell it in RDWorks which two lines to scan between by changing their color to Blue. I haven’t tried scanning using more than one color to change the laser power/speed but it looks like in theory that would work.
Im trying to use 15 layers to etch at different amounts and one to cut. With them all loading in solid black and on one layer it is difficult to figure out which is which and change setting for them as needed. May need to go with the jpg etch via photo option.
Just seemed like it sould be a simple thing to do to load the colors or layers separately.
I have some ai files with one layer, multiple colors - all stroked on the layer (0.001" stroke). RD Works recognizes each of the colors independently and then I can set the parameters and order for those colors separately.
I don’t know if the difference is that mine are stroked or if it’s the multiple vs. single layer difference …
