Can we use any of the laser cutters in DMS to cut the airframe?
If itâs polystyrene foam, itâs probably ok to cut. If itâs got Chlorine or C (like PVC) in the abbreviation itâs probably not. The laser committee docs have a list of approved materials.
Regarding Spektrum vs other brands for bind-n-fly models - you can buy a DSMX Tx module for the Taranis and itâll work with those: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/orangerx-dsmx-dsm2-compatible-2-4ghz-transmitter-module-v1-2.html
Yes, several of us have cut out many Flite Test planes on the Lasersaur. We have also converted many of the plans to SVG for use with the laser cutter:

Also, instead of laser-cut ply for things like motor mounts and control horns, weâve had good success with 3d printed parts instead. Theyâre stronger (one-piece plastic versus glued together ply), and typically easier/cheaper to build.
Yes the flitetest planes are just made out of dollar store foam board it is very easy to cut on the thunder laser. Flitetest started posting their plans with extra lines to serve as instructions for people cutting it by hand but you donât want that for laser cutting so you have to go in and delete the extra lines but I already have done it for a lot of planes and I can give you the files.
Thanks, that is a relief. I am not sure if I am qualified to use laser machines. Could you or some one help me in cutting them. I can learn too so that if some one needs any help even I can pitch in.
Gotta take the class to use the lasers. Youâre in luck - thereâs a Laser Basics class Sunday 12/10 at 1:00 pm. Still open for registration: https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/4429
AwsomeâŚregistered. Any 3D Printer class?
When and where does the Aerospace members meet?
Let me know if you have questions after you take the class or need the files that are ready to cut.
Sure, will touch base.
I attended the classes. I believe the FlightTest plans in PDF wouldnât work. What files do you have?
I have svg files, to use them on the thunder lasers you need to covert them to ai files on adobe illustrator which is on the computers.
Which planes do you have svgâs for?
Here is a dropbox with all of them, https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0x8tqyang0kcf8t/AADczE4Rzxwn2OdIuhSwhj6Oa?dl=0
Black is cut so like %80 power
Red is cut half way through which is tricky but around 20% should be a starting point
and blue and green are just etch so like %5
