Raw Materials available locally

Just spent nearly an hour online trying to find a local source of ordinary carbon steel for blacksmithing and welding projects I have in mind.
Ideally it would be a place that has a decent selection and who doesn’t mind dealing with individuals (and cutting it to a size that will fit in my van, etc.).
(Most I’ve found either want to sell you a few tons or want to build something for you.)

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

You may have already worked through some of these…

Actually I didn’t know that page exists. Will check it out. Thanks.

I’ve had good luck here even before joining DMS, although other folks might have better suggestions, or that wiki page may.

Thanks, this looks like just the ticket.

Metals 4 u is generally the best option, but there are others on the wiki that aren’t bad, especially if you don’t mind driving to Arlington.

Know you are looking for local just something to keep in mind though. If you look through Amazon and find something you’re looking for, play with the different size options if your project allows and you can get stuff stupidly cheap as @talkers and @EthanWestern can attest.
Example: 14.95 for 1095 knife making blank that is 1.5"x12"x.187" or 49.95 for the same thing that is 12"x12"x.187"

One other thought: I went to Dallas Metal Mart (down by Southwestern Medical Center/ near downtown). They advertise themselves as a supermarket for metal / and they will cut it for you. Also, they have three bins of cut-offs that they will sell for very little. The guy I talked to said that once something is in the “less than 4 ft category”, they’ve taken it out of inventory so they are just looking to get something. I bought a 2X4 sheet of cold rolled plus a handful of odds and ends pieces of square and round for practice welding / blacksmithing for $20.
