So I hooked up a Lipo battery to my dev board and it started smoking.
The connector was crimped backwards.
So I looked up the lipo battery connector standard thats supposed to protect against reverse polarity and this is what I found. Super helpful guys
Lesson learned, check the polarity on your battery connectors

I know your pain!!! I found in sourcing batteries in bulk you can’t always trust the labeling on the LIPOs themselves let alone the color of the wires. I got a batch of mis-printed LIPO Gum Stick size batteries where the package had the polarity reverse on the cell wrapper. No wonder they were such a deal. It didn’t take but one to know something was wrong. So, with first time use of a discreet LIPO, I wouldn’t trust much.
Sorry you had to learn the lesson through experience, but at least their were fireworks!
