A computer I have the mainboard will not boot and only goes to DRAM light on mainboard. I did try same RAM and CPU on a seperate mainboard however same issue no boot and only DRAM light. Does the electroincs area have tools to test an AM4 AMD CPU and DDR4 3200 RAM sticks?
ELab does not have that kind of test gear / set up. Only test set up that comes to mind is a running mother board - swap out components until boot failure occurs.
I would try one stick of RAM in various slots and then the other stick of RAM. It’s highly unlikely but not impossible that both sticks of RAM are faulty. Is the CPU physically damaged in any way? All pins intact?
Thanks, It actually has 4 ram sticks and alternating them in different slots and still had issue. Yesterday I did try in another mainboard with same error. Would be nice to confirm which one is the issue. However, this is for my gaming PC so with holiday sales think I will just wait and upgrade.
Yes, One stick at a time in each slot and no luck. I even tried a different power supply in event power supply damaged and not providing enough to complete boot.
One very important note… Be patient! After turning on power, wait at least 60 - 120 seconds before pulling the plug. When dealing with changed RAM, the BIOS needs to interact with the RAM a bit before it can begin to use it. This can easily take 30 to 60 seconds. Don’t assume the tests complete in 15 seconds or less…
Thanks for the tips. I did let it run for more than a minute when testing. And yes with what might be the issue between different parts I don’t want to potentially waste time and money on finding replacement parts. As is not my main computer will just do some upgrades when I see sales on newer components.
