Quick question: is there a ROS in the woodshop?

Was wondering if there was a random orbital sander in the tools of the wood shop. Went by earlier today and didn’t see one, but things are in a bit of disarray so I could’ve easily missed it.

Just need one for a project I’m trying to finish and my current one is a few hundred miles away and would prefer not to buy another one (though the HF one is cheap and good, a combination not often found).

Yep…we have a pretty nice Festool sander-n-auto-dust collector unit. If it is in same place as I saw it last, it is right near the sanding station (work table + sanding paper storage wall unit) on west side of wood shop. I hope it is still in the vicinity…there was a lot of electrical work going on in the last few days and things may have been shuffled around or displaced. But it’s there somewhere…

Oooh, I’m pretty excited about that. I’ve only ever had the opportunity to use my Harbor Freight one (which does work quite well) and always wondered how well others work in comparison.

Oh good. You are referring to random orbital sander. I was afraid that a
class on Robot Operating System was scheduled for the workshop.

Your talking about a Pinto and a Ferrari here.

Just be warned your Harbor Freight may not seem to work as good as it used to after using the Festool gear.

Also be sure the sander is hooked into the Festool Hepa Filter in the station.

Now that is what we need! Tools that talk to us! Just think of the possibilities…

I was thinking more of a Fran Dressher voice saying things like; “That is not a safe operation”, “Please clean my exhaust ports”, “My scanner indicates you have not taken my training course.” …

Used it today. It was nice, more sanding area, more ergonomic form, less vibrations, but in terms of sanding it did about the same performance wise if we take out the increase in sanding area.

The Festool ROS is nice, but it’s $$$.
