Quick disconnects for Induction Forge

A blacksmith I follow on Facebook recommends these quick disconnect adaptors to make swapping out coils quick and easy. This might also reduce the chance of damage to the internal connections when users forget to use TWO wrenches when making the swap.

Derek Melton’s FB post about the connectors.

Direct link to the quick connects on the Cluaran Forge site Note that they are currently marked as Out of Stock because the store is closed til mid-August 2024.

This would also possibly require some retrofitting on the existing coils to match the quick connects. Check the site for details.

Those are definitely worth looking into buying. At that point though we would either need to buy new coils to make sure those swap or looks like solder them to those quick disconnects.

Derek’s a good guy and a good pro blacksmith. You could reach out to him on FB for his experience using the connectors and making the transition.

I think it’s just a matter of getting the right size connector ends (flares?) and soldering them ala a plumbing connection (Emory cloth to clean copper, flux, torch, apply solder to joint). The devil’s in the details re: pipe sizes, etc.

Yeah many details with that. Though it would be a good switch over since I’ve had someone bump into a coil and it broth at that seam. Much better to swap to bigger pieces. Better overall for a user set up. I will reach out to him too. Thanks!

I’m sorry I haven’t been able to attend any recent blacksmithing meetings. When are you planning to have the next one?

All good Dan.

Thanks Nick. I plan to be there.

Ended up getting some of the coils and connectors ordered through him. Excited to get them on the induction forge!
