Question: Stained Ceramic Rods

Hey folks, there are some stained ceramic rods up on the top shelf with the Mica Specialty Firing pieces. At a glance, they didn’t seem to be the white mica but I could have just missed the flecks. If anyone could please chime in on these, that would be excellent.

(Also, side note, if folks want to fire items along with a special firing, that’s usually okay, just ask the instructor/leave a note with your contact info!)

For what would something like this typically be used?

They struck me as being those thingies you put in potted plants that are supposed to help you know when the soil is dry and needs water, but I’d be shocked if that’s right.
