What classes are required before using the MIG? I have past experience with a MillerMatic Mig unit and was wondering if I need to take the safety class or if I need to also attend one of the beginning classes as well as the safety before I could use the MIG in the metal shop.

The safety class is the only requirement. That way we ensure all users are on a level playing field as far as safety is concerned.
That used to be the case, however now the requirements are that members need to take Safety and then the MIG class.
I was in a similar position as you, but went ahead and completed both classes with Lee. It was well worth the time and hassle. Requirements aside, I highly suggest taking them for your, everyone around you, and equipment safety. There are plenty classes on the schedule.
Part of the reason for taking the class is to learn what Metal Shop’s & the Makerspace rules are on usage of equipment, which is independent of skill level.
