Hi! Today I walked into the makerspace and saw a sign that said “Storage will be purged Feb 12, 2023. Any unlabeled or over-time items will be trashed. Do not change dates or make new labels, it’s on camera.”
So I got two labels saying some items were unlabeled and some items were over-time, so I wanted to apologize and also get some questions cleared up.
For the unlabeled items, I’m sorry for that - I had labeled them before but must have forgotten to put a label again to indicate my progress.
As for the over-time items, my understanding from talking to woodshop folks was that if you were actually making progress on your work, it was ok. I had been coming to the makerspace weekly except for the week when there was the winter storm. To communicate my progress, I would cross out the date on my label and put the day’s date when I had made the progress. However, the purging notification makes it sound like you should wrap up your project within 30 days and making progress doesn’t make a difference. I’m a new maker, so I don’t have a good gauge for when I can finish a project. So what should I do in terms of using the storage area and communicating my progress?
Additionally, I’m a little confused why I didn’t see this purge notification on talk or through any of the communication channels I listed on my label. I thought that the purpose of the label in the first place was so that it could provide a communication channel for notifying members of any issue that could arise.
I would be devastated if my work is destroyed. Please let’s have a conversation so we can clear things up.
