Question about the DMS area/local trails

So I’ve recently taken up running/walking (don’t laugh) couch 2 5k just week 2 people don’t get excited. I leave work from Lewisville and head up 35 when I go to DMS. I’m wondering if anyone knows a good safe area to do a quick jog in close to DMS. I was going to run around the industrial area surrounding DMS but I was told as a single woman not to even come close to considering that. In my land of butterflies and cupcakes I don’t always consider the bad things that could potentially happen.

If anyone is interested in joining me please let me know. I could use a good accountability partner but my schedule isn’t one that would make anyone happy and would probably lead to someone to not be my accountability partner.

Carrollton has some green belt trails that aren’t too far away. Another possibility would be the track at the high school down the road, don’t know if that is any safer then the roads around the space.

and here are some possibilities in Farmer’s Branch

It’s out of the way but I can highly recommend this place…

Why don’t you call the Carrollton and Farmer’s Branch police and ask them if it is safe to jog in the industrial area or where would they recommend. Even jogging trails are not ‘safe’ . There has been a series of robberies on the Katy trail, near Uptown

Thanks guys I don’t want you to assume I think Dms is unsafe. I do know nothing is without risks. I headed to the beautiful Brookhaven campus today for a bit of a semi-jog?? Lots of people. In the open. Campus police on patrol. I think it might be a very good choice.
You’ve been warned I’m coming to Dms and I’m sweaty smelly gross.

My former employer was hired to create the Carrollton Trail Maps app for iOS and Android if you’re so inclined.

You can use google maps to look for hiking & biking trails. There is a layer option in the map.

The north Campion Trail in Irving is close-ish (northern trailhead is at 635 / Bush). I ride my road bike there regularly and it’s never crowded. Getting there is a little tricky - directions to Sam Houston Trail Park usually put you parking on the street somewhere in Valley Ranch as opposed to the actual parking lot accessible from the westbound 635 service road under the interchange.

Lewisville/Flower Mound have a number of trails that are moderately integrated:

  • Lewisville/Flower Mound east-west paralleling Valley Ridge from Summit to Kirkpatrick
  • Flower Mound north-south trail from Morris/Homestead to Kirkpatrick south of 1171
  • Flower Mound east-west from Forest Vista Elementary to Long Prairie and Misty Glen
  • Flower Mound east-west from McKamey Middle School to Flower Mound Road and Darcey
  • Lewsville generally north-south from Kerney and Regency through Central Park to Wildfire Dr (disclaimer: I find the northern bits of this route a bit sketchy after sundown and I’m a big dude on a bicycle)
  • Highland Village has a ridiculously extensive trail system generally paralleling Brazos Blvd / Highland Shores Rd

I’ve found that google maps’ “Bicycling” feature will reveal MUPs (Multi-Use Paths) quite well.
