Question about old filament

Good morning Y’all,

I went by the space last night to print some stuff since I was having issues getting my abs to stick to the bed at home. It’s honestly pretty old filament, might have bought it in early 2020, so I dried it at home for 5 hours. I’ve used that same roll in the past at the space, but last night it just stuck right to the nozzle, forming a big glob.
Any suggestions on what I should do to get it to stick? I’m thinking of trying masking tape at home to see if that does it.

I’ve never tried it, but I’ve heard hairspray suggested.

The problem with hairspray is, the sticky gets all over the printers. When all else failed, I have, in the past used a piece of diffuser plastic from inside an lcd TV as a build plate clip on. Since its removable, you can remove it and coat it with hairspray for additional adhesion without contaminating the printer, but seems to work as a standalone as well. I use it for old filaments and stubborn abs and petg, none of my printers are enclosed. I got it from a 55" LCD that was toast. I left a piece of it at the space a few weeks ago.

Thank you for mentioning that, I’ll take a look next time. I was about ready to give up on the spool
