With a crappy phone stop watch, crappy nerves and reactions, and a lot of assumptions (sound and video sync being one)…

Difference between flash and bang is 1.15 seconds, assuming the speed of sound is 340.29 m/s (many variables here), it works out to about 1282.8 feet away from you, so you’re guess doesn’t seem TOO far off.

We are starting today at 8AM if there are any early birds. We are at Nelson’s Fireworks in Caddo Mills, Texas. Today’s plan it to press whistle, black powder, and strobe rockets rockets. We made 5 pounds of black powder yesterday and about a pound of whistle mix. We are going to make an additional 2 pounds of black pounds of black powder and strobe fuel today. We also still have probably 200+ pounds of Liquid Oxygen to use up, you either use it or lose it.

If rockets are not your cup of tea, we will be setting up a professional display that you can help with. That will be fired at Dark:30. Also during the day, we expect some of the more interesting members will be around shooting canons and launching anvils. Lastly we have the after shoot where everyone will be firing whatever they want. This usually includes, Magnesium fires (aka light up the night like the sun is out), shooting Big Loud Solutes, shooting Master Level Hand Built Shells, and often a few surprises.

The event has been perfect so far, the temp is nice and the ground is dry. So if you can make it I would definitely encourage it.

Here are some photo updates.

Rocket building area.

This is where I’ve spent the majority of my time. We are currently trying a new whistle rocket fuel mix. We have about ten rockets pressed, headed, and sticked. Waiting till 4 to launch them.

Starting to make rocket boxes. I think we have talked Rex into 20,000+

Here is a time lapse of us making the rocket boxes.

I didn’t record the results, but I’ll ask around and see if I can find a video. The event was awesome and hopefully Ken and I will be able to bring even more Pyro to dba I the future.
