Pyrofest 2015 - November 6-8 in Caddo Mills

Well is time for another pyrotechnic event for the Texas Fireants! We have had the last two events canceled due to rain but now we have lots to shoot off.

Looks like a member will be towing his black powder cannons, anvils and other LOUD things to the event. @Nick and my self plan on making black powder rockets in the 1lb & 3lb sizes. Don’t know what that means come out and find out. If you ask nicely we may help you make some ground salutes and other fun things.

Homemade Black Powder Rockets

Black Powder Cannon

I missed taking shots of the anvil shooting. Due to the mud and muck they only went up 6 feet. But did so with plenty of noise.

I’ll upload a videos tonight. Side note we need to give a huge thanks to Blake for hauling the press. I’ve never used a set up that nice and now I have to figure out how we can possibly live without it. :frowning:

I sent Blake a thank you. Yeah, maybe DMS would be interested in a hydraulic press for :rocket:'s. Not likely.

We need to get Ed on making a cannon!

Those handmade Maltese style shells by Carl Tauch were amazing. Too bad I was freezing my ass off in the back of a pickup. But for some truly fine shell building by the Japanese:

How the hell are those so perfect???

On the subject of Japanese shows, I had the privilege in '08 to attend the handmade rocket festival in Chichibu City, Saitama, Japan. All my pictures suck, but you can read about it, see a couple decent photos, and pretty nifty video here. These rockets were originally built to deliver their payload any time of day or night for the defense of the empire (as I understand it), so they make colorful displays even in broad daylight. Our hosts spoke no English, and I no Japanese, so I did not fully understand the goings on, but man was it awesome!

3lb rocket go fupptttttttttt…

1lb rocket too fast to catch. Unless you weigh them down!!

Here is the 1 pound rocket weighted down with a mighty salute.

We had a near 7 foot pole on the rocket to offset the weight of the salute. later we just used 2 long stick as seen in ken’s picture.
