Prusa XL CoreXY with Toolchanger

Prusa finally announced the XL model which has a 360x360x360 build volume, tool changing, modular bed heating, auto calibration, and new extruder/hotend design.

I pre-ordered one because I think it’s a step in the right direction with FDM and I have had really good luck with Prusa printers in the past. It won’t replace my delta printers, but I look forward to finally playing with tool changing print heads.

What do you think?

It’s very tempting. Especially with up to 5 heads and a 14”+ build volume in each direction. This sized printer would give option to do larger more functional prints vs just miniatures and small items.

It’s a little pricey for me, but I’m very curious to see how well the tool changer and some of the additional sensors end up working (and how fiddly they get). Really like the incremental improvements here.

It’s more than a little pricey. Lol. But at that build volume the price isn’t bad especially with the technology behind it.

Take a look at Josef’s interview with 3D printing Nerd

On one hand it answers a lot of questions regarding the “perfect first layer” with no Z adjustment and on the other hand it really shows his passion for these 3D printers.

strain gauge leveling is what my current delta printer uses so it’s nothing new, but for Prusa’s it shows they’re getting away from capacitive sensors that have an offset value you have to tune. I pretty much have perfect first layers on my delta as well. Of course my delta printer almost cost as much as this Prusa XL so you pay for cutting edge tech and service.

I’m more interested in having a tool changer printer that doesn’t involve a lot of assembly like the E3D tool changer. The heated bed is interesting and I’m really into this cycloidal extruder with large drive wheel.
