Protection for the fob on the multicam

perhaps the fob should be treated like a cell phone and have a padded surround made for it

also the cord may be enclosed with a second securing point so that it can’t be yanked out of the fob

the fob seems to be a critical input point for the machine and potential failure point

that is prone to rough handling

The pendant seems pretty durable to me. The problem is people treating it like a cell phone, not the equipment controller that it is. There hasn’t been an issue, as far as I know, with the cord being yanked. The cord and connector should never be under tension, there is plenty of slack for the operator to stand by the pendant holder. Adding a cable anchor to the pendant would require a modification (I am not in favor of this) and possibly even encourage misuse.

If you somehow pad the pendant, it no longer fits in the pendant holder. You are then forcing somebody to find another place to put it. The best place for the pendant is in the pendant holder, IMHO. It won’t jump out on to the floor by itself.

Given the number of times that the Heimer has hit the floor, apparently these things do tend to jump on to the floor by themselves… :grinning:

well

in the holder with the cord draping to the floor and someone not seeing and stepping on it and stressing it may have been what happened to it last week and that coupled with the machine freezing up and having trouble with home settings prompted the conclusion that the fob may have been damaged and needed evaluation

the cord at the fob looked stressed and partially at a wrong angle

dont have picture of it to share

so I appreciate your reluctance “to do anything” but having the cord and holder may be presenting a potential hazard

You would have to step on the cord in a very particular way to pull on the cord when the pendant is in the holder. There aren’t a lot of reasons to even be walking in that area (between the pendant holder and power supply) when operating the machine.

The pendant got dropped when somebody was holding it from what I understand. I don’t know under what conditions they dropped it, maybe it slipped out of their hands, maybe they were walking around for no apparent reason… who knows.

I just think this is an operator problem, not a machine problem.

one reason would be just walking up to the machine and stepping on the cord that is draping down at the edge of the table ?

so many things are operator issues and not machine issues nut still need to be contended with

BTW it’s called a pendant, not a FOB.
And they are designed to be fairly tough, so hopefully it won’t be an issue.
Thanks,
Alyssa

I agree with @MathewBusby and @apipe,

From my use of the machine I feel the “Pendant” has proven to be very durable. I’ve found issues with the machine freezing or not loading quickly to be issues of network and computer, not the pendant.

That all being said, I called MultiCam and a replacement pendant will run $1575.00 if we are required to purchase one. So it may be financially smart to find a way to keep it from being easily dropped.

So now I’m mixed.

What about putting a rubber mat on the floor below the holder?

If we can’t pad the pendant can we pad the floor?

thanks for clarification on pendant as I was going by what others called it
