Prop Making/Cosplay Building for Isshin Ashina The Sword Saint

Hello!

I’m Victor Nguyen, a new member of DMS. I joined because I wanted to build a cosplay for an upcoming anime convention. For now, I would like some advice (or mentorship if possible ) on building the spear and helmet. I have attached a reference image below.

Regarding the spear, I would like to use either wood or PVC, but they have to be detachable, so it’s easier for transportation. I believe there is a woodcutting and plastic cutting area at the DMS that can help me with this. For the blade of the spear, it can be either wood or foam.

Regarding the helmet, I’m not sure where to start with this one.

Please feel free to reach out if anyone has any questions or needs some clarification with what I would like to build. This is my second cosplay I’ve ever wanted to build, so I’m still kinda new to all this.

You could start by searching Talk for HELMET. While you’ll get a lot of welding helmet stuff, you will also find things like these:

How much interest in classes on creating patterns from scratch for foam based helmets, and a separate class on cutting, gluing, and finishing from an existing pattern? Wanna print Mando helmet, recommendations?

I took the 3D printing class like forever ago but I haven’t used the space’s printers much because I own a couple of my own. However, I want to do a large print of a Mando helmet for myself to mold and make some castings. I have a full 1kg roll of ABS I could use. Do you think that kind of thing would fit on the bed of the smaller polyprinters or would I need to use the big one? I don’t really want to split the model since it’s a lot of extra work and I need it perfectly smooth for casting. …

Sean Fields (great guy, local, built a Speederbike at the space a few years ago) released an outstanding file - cheap too Chest armor might take a bit of looking - I will probably 3D model a similar hammer soon

I have a full size Silence Glaive and Sailor Pluto’s staff that were both made at DMS. They were made by attaching 3D prints to PVC pipe.
