There is a large wood and steel project stored in the Metal Shop. There is no personal storage allowed in Committee spaces. Move it or we will. See picture below:
Science left the hood in the shop for metal shop to use. I though there was a note that went along with it saying so. Sorry about the miscommunication. If you guys don’t want the hood we will throw it out.
I’m pretty sure he’s talking about the thing in front of the hood… I was wondering what that was last night too…
I was wondering what that was last night too…
“Scrap” is what it will be soon.
Are we talking about the angle/square tube steel structure(s)?
Seems like they’d make excellent welding coupons…
Dibs on plasma practice!
Is the beige hood not necessary for the fume hood setup?
aahh no, not anymore, buuuuuutttt $10,000.00 to Science would be much appreciated!
Might be best to off site the project in front of the fume hood. Minimize hard feelings from the rule breaker, who probably is not aware of the violation.
How about offsiting the entire metal storage rack behind the fume hood? Would be a good task for lift gate truck.

I thought that was committee storage. Hard drill rod for forging, and what not.
But certainly if there are individual member supplies stored here, they shouldn’t remain by current policy.
Ordinarily my liftgate services would be available to help move stuff but this weekend we are moving a bunch of games for the event at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History that VECTOR will be at. I am loading up four pinball machines in to my truck right now…
I would be there if I wasn’t hanging out with family this weekend.
Re: Storage - I’ve let Andrew Z. know about the grumbling - it’s his project. As far as the “storage” on wheels - my understanding is that, with few exceptions, this is a good place to temporarily store project pieces…I know foundry uses it to keep general stock, I know I’ve used it, put my name on stuff, used it within a couple of weeks time…I know that when I finish a project and there is stuff left over that is of good usable length that others might want, I put it back there without my name on it, I know I’ve used pieces from it if there is no name on it and I need it.
If I’ve needed to store a project temporarily in the metal shop (the wood lathe I built) because it is a huge pain in the butt to move back and forth, or too big - I check with Lee, one of the chairs. There has never been an issue.
I would prefer we don’t make a problem where there really isn’t one. Check with the committee - communication is usually a good thing!
Thread was started by the current chair of the metalshop committee…
Oops :)…hard to tell with the avatars…my bad. Since I see Lee more, that’s generally who I coordinate with…
Brandon,
The metal storage pictured behind the hood, is used in part by the Blacksmithing Committee for storage of class materials and is labeled as such - should anyone bother to read. (Ours is the 2nd rack down) If this storage becomes an issue, I’m sure that Chuck and John H., the chairs of the two committees involved, will work something out. Thanks for your input though.

In discussing the Metal Shop reorganization (getting rid of tools, getting new tools, etc.) we are trying to think of more efficient ways it could be stored using less floor space/foot print - not getting rid of it. It may be we develop some vertical storage racks rather than horizontal as a lot of valuable wall space is being consumed and tools can’t be mounted in front of it.
Metal Shop and Forge will get it figured out. Part of the reorganization will include the induction heater (which will be great!) where it goes, electrical, etc.
