Quick Fired Arts Report:
We had a very successful western and obvara Raku Workshop offsite last month at a local potter’s home and will be heading back once it cools down a bit for a second round focusing on terra sigilatta and horsehair raku. We will also be having a Slipcasting Mold Workday on Saturday, July 21st from 2pm — 4pm for anyone interested in helping decide which molds will become part of the committee’s library.
Perhaps most exciting was a very successful Train the Trainers session which was well attended. Our get together was less about the specifics of any one tool and more about what the committee could do to help new and first time instructors. We covered supply purchasing, the calendar interface and answered a lot questions about how teaching at DMS works. A lot of ceramics classes are best taught as multiple sessions and so we also discussed options for co-teaching and finding helper buddies. All in all, a great evening and I hope to see everyone back with some new and exciting ceramics classes in the next few months.
