Does anyone have any experience in porting and polishing intake manifolds? I’m not looking for amazing horsepower but I would like the engine to be at its best
We use to pour silicone into the ports, then pull them out when cured so we could see where rounding was needed. Are you going to install larger valves? If so, do the valve seats first then you know how much to open the port up.
Biggest challenge is to NOT grind away so much as to get into the water jacket. Flex shaft tools are easiest to use and will fit down port. We used grinding stones because this was the Age of Steel Heads (late 60’s). If you’re doing an Aluminum head you may have to use a small cutter bit since Aluminum will likely gum up a grinding stone fact.
I think I’m just going to port and polish the intake and see what I can do. I was going to do it slowly and learn with some junkyard parts
They do make burs for aluminum. Also dipping the bur into transmission fluid regularly will help keep the clogging down.
Good idea. You my even grind it until break through so you know.
Thanks. I’ll practice and eventually I want to just get the engine as efficient and healthy as possible.
