Poly Printers Question

Hi,
Today I tried to log in to the computer in the 3D fab area to print something but I ran into some trouble. I came in with .stl files but could not get KISSlicer to open on the computer in the 3D fab area. So, I downloaded KISSlicer on my laptop and I think I have it set up properly. (I have only taken the 3D printing classes but have not actually printed anything on my own yet.) I used the settings from the online polyprinter training with DMS but I keep getting an error when I try to slice the file, it ask me to check if I have illegal characters in my file name, which I don’t. Any thoughts on troubleshooting?

Also, I loaded some orange abs and forgot to unload it when I could not get anything to work an hour later, sorry about that.

Thanks!

The Fab pc is an instructor tool and print queue (web access to octoprint) terminal, and nothing else. It is not meant to get tied up as a slicer, generator, or editor for prints. The copy of kisslicer installed even has a custom name to highlight this, should you find it with a Windows+search.
The 3 labeled design computers in the common room are to be used for slicing via kissslicer or simplify3D. Try one of those for your immediate slicing needs while you troubleshoot your laptop. If you’re having filename errors, try making its name literally 1 or 2 letters long. Like ‘ab’ or ‘gt’. After you get the print physically made you can worry about renaming for archival purposes.

Thank you.

You can download KISSlicer here …

Thanks I appreciate the help. I got that part but was not sure how to set it up for the polyprinters. I found some settings online but figured if they were incorrect the slicing might not work so well.

Are there design/slice stations in 3D in the future?

With the new setup in the common room the design PCs tend to be camped out on. People watching YouTube, general surfing etc.

Would be nice to have a slice only PC.

People camping on the design computers has always been an issue. Not just after the recent change.

Ask them to move to a different PC for surfing as those are dedicated to slicing and design.

I agree with your view. With all that new room, seems like a couple of slice and send PC’s could be in the new 3D Fab room.

3D Fab is planning to have computers for design/slicing within the lab itself… Procurement continues at the speed of volunteer.
