Policy for busted tool

Hi All,
Unfortunately while I was working last night, I was sloppy and crashed an edge finder and snapped the head of the spring of the body. What is the policy for replacing tools? I’m happy to get a new one for the shop, but I wasn’t sure if DMS had a procedure/supplier for replacing tooling.

Thanks,
Evan

Just let us know, via Discourse or a ticket. So thanks!

Sry to jump in, but sort of related.
Went to use the lathe cutoff tool but the insert was broken. Still installed though so I guess someone was having more luck than me. I don’t know where everything is yet or I just would have replaced it and I dont know if inserts are ticket worthy so just a quick FYI

Thanks. There should be more inserts in the cabinet.

FYI - As chairman of the machine shop, my policy is that s**t happens. I strive to keep the machine shop a mostly fee free environment, and won’t penalize members for honest mistakes. But if I don’t know thing’s have been broken, I can’t replace them. So please: Report problems, broken tools, etc. Help me keep the machine shop up and running.

Evan, thanks for bringing it up. Often things get broken & nobody will own up to it.

Kudos to you sir.

As a wild guess, were you using the autofeed and forgot to dial back the speed? Probably most common error.

My curiousity is so if it’s something else when I teach the next Bridgeport class I can mention a “watch out for this”.

Thanks for reporting it.

Sorry for the late response.

Yeah pretty much. I had one of the x feed going and I was moving too quick, trying to do something else at the same time and I smacked the tip of the edge finder on the vise. It just popped off. The piece of advice that would have saved me is: Don’t multitask. Ever. You’re going to do a poor job at both operations and eventually break something. I guess I know for later. :frowning:

The good news: it wasn’t a cutter so vice wasn’t hurt!

Have fun - Bridgeport for me is a fun tool.
