Please turn off the projector in the Lecture Hall

Please turn off the projector in the Lecture Hall when you are finished using it. The bulb has limited useful life and it is very expensive to replace.

It may not be obvious, but the “Standby” button on the remote control turns the projector off.

Previous transgressions are forgiven, but continued failure from this point forward to turn the projector off may result in the suspension of your privileges to use the projector or to reserve the Lecture Hall.

Having been tangentially involved with the selection and installation of the projector, I’d like to point out that this unit uses a Laser light source, and hence has no bulb to burn out, nor is the light source replaceable. Whereas it does technically have a limited life, that life is rated at 20,000 hours (and I’ll bet it goes for a lot longer in reality). It also generates a lot less waste heat for the AC system to deal with and is quieter due to the need for less air movement for cooling. This model is designed for professional / industrial use where it can run 24/7/365.

THIS IS IN NO WAY TO ABSOLVE ANYONE FROM NOT TURNING IT OFF.

One other benefit of these new laser projectors is that they can be turned on and off and on and off without shortening the life of the lamp. Heating and cooling cycles on old projectors often times lead to premature death of lamps, but laser light source comes up to full brightness almost immediately, so even if you’re not sure if you’ll be back in 10 minutes, shut it down.

In other words: There’s no reason that it should be left on.
