Please read- All the stuff going on in CA - so you know and I can stop blowing up talk

So y’all I’m just going to make a running list of things going on so you know what’s stirring in the CA room and I’m getting annoying on talk so I feel I should just do this in one big swoop.

General room - Monthly cleaning lists made and posted for members to help. Consumable check sheet also posted this should be checked monthly. I posted them so EVERYONE can help keep track of things. Leather and Sewing have a check sheet in the cabinet.

Letterpress- the chase is being made by Herb when I have time I’ll drive out and get it. We are 90% ready to use the machine. Inks and smaller tools need to be purchased.
Shirts are on pre-order to help us have a small amount of funds. Link: http://goo.gl/forms/5qxCYZ9alTV7LMdV2

Shapeoko- So it was hit and cut and ripped up. We are working to get it back to working status. The surround is designed thanks to @mreynolds he’s waiting to get all learned up on the laser to cut it out the surround. and Chuck ordered parts (everything except the arduino) to replace what was taken. Once it’s in he’s going to submit the receipt for a refund. It’s been on back burner and I know many want to see that complete @JohnK. I believe they were discussing getting the arduino locally or seeing if someone was willing to donate (I don’t mind buying one).

Leather- I purchased a bunch of stuff and it was delivered to @bitta she’s going to bring it in soon to complete some of the needs. I need classes to be taught to drive interest. The work nights are being reduced to once a month and being driven by @bitta. Tandy is MIA right now but I have promises that they will be back to teach soon (crickets). @Photomancer is going to work to get a leather sewing machine class on the books. The base for the more substantial tools has been built and we are going to make caps and attach the tools for a modular system (I don’t think I’m explaining that very well). I would like an inventory done.

Sewing- @Jules talked about organizing a fabric swap for the future. Monthly meetings I think are dropping off @Sparkle I would like you to possibly consider doing something in conjunction with @wandrson toy drive. I’ve ordered a bolt of muslin for classes and it will come in with bitta and be put in the cabinet.

Fibers - growing and doing @kyrithia is overseeing bi-weekly classes and Walter made a delicious couple of looms. With Renfaire stuff happening she has been busy.

Vinyl - trying to encourage DMS chairs to step up and use up all the strange colors so I can get a standard set of 8. Heat press vinyl will be purchased eventually (not in a rush for that). @Adam_Oas is putting a class on the schedule and it’s been a consistent class for us. The wiki has a great lesson on how to use it (link). A roll of transfer tape is on it’s way.

Dye Sub/Heat press - New/better/larger one on it’s way. Thanks for the interest @CaryF300 will be getting some classes up. Old one will be tossed due to hazards of it being a lemon.

Large format printer - Plotter was sacrificed and we are down to the Epson @pandabob is going to give us a bill for the remaining ink and he will become basically a person to bill us when we need to get the inks filled. Canvas is on hand. I’m going to order one more roll of paper and give it to @artnerdray to bring in when it gets low this summer. Please pay when you use it. I worry about the long term of printing at DMS as paying just covers the cost of materials not repair. We will talk about purchasing a plotter if the use/funds for the Epson balance out. The computer does have software to track prints so you are being watched.

Embroidery - Not buying the larger machine until we have more interest/support. That being said I’ve seen interest building. @baileyfry and @John_Marlow will be teaching classes soon. The wiki has a wonderful lesson on it (link). Software to transfer the files to the diskette will be installed on all the computers.

Money - I’ve spent a huge amount of money trying to get the room ready for me to be gone for huge chunks of the summer. I don’t mind but I’m sure the finance committee will be relieved to see me take a break from the CC for a bit. Purchases need to be talked over with @artnerdray.

Future things - with fiance talking about getting away from paypal I would like to have some sort of kiosk in the room for mircopayments.
Ideally I would like to have a pad attached to the column to connect to the TV for teacher videos/music, payments and general information.
I need to purchase a cutting mat for the standing worktable.
Posters need to be hung.
A honey do list needs to be posted.
I need an assistant.

Thanks for reading. If you want to discuss anything lets do it.

 I’ll say that if you are a chairperson of a committee, feel free to hit me up (PM here) and I’ll try to accommodate your schedule to make sure that you get trained on the Vinyl cutter. The class seems to fill pretty quickly every time I schedule it so I’ll make an additional effort for those who are already working hard to make DMS a better place by being a chairperson.

You so cool! Hey you know on the 4th at 5p the chairs are having a meeting - possibly you could coordinate something??? Just an idea.

What kind of Arduino does it need? If it has to be the genuine Uno, I can donate one to the cause. If it can be a clone, I can donate an Uno or Mega clone.

Is there something you want to tell us???

I still want to implement a kiosk system. We’ll talk further…

Great run down Nicole,

As for the finance committee getting tired of the receipts, that is no big deal. Our only difficulty with receipts is mainly due to Amazon, not the purchasing agent.

When you purchase an item on Amazon we ask that you submit the INVOICE, rather than the order summary which is automatically emailed to you. To get the Invoice, go to Amazon.com under you orders, there is a link in the urper right of each order that produces the invoice view.

We want this because the Invoice shows how the purchases where charged to the credit card, example below:
This was one order, but amazon charged the card as two separate orders.

Hahahaha I wish but no Elon and Theo are both currently taken so no fiancee this very second.
Ps currently taking applications

Thanks Bill, from what I understand it used to have an Arduino uno. I believe that a clone would work just fine. We can at least give it a go

How do we access the honeydo list? I have an item for consideration.

After reading the FBI’s report on property crimes, it appears that a key deterrent is permanently and visibly marking valuable items so they can be recovered if stolen (and making them harder to pawn for cash). We might consider having a marking spree in CA, but making sure we can identify anything that was loaned so it is spared the permanent marking. Anything that was loaned should have a (non-destructive) sticker on it identifying it as such.

@AnneGullett, you might consider the same thing out in Jewelry/Small Metals.

I like that. I’ve been marking things with pink tape as we get them.
A workday would be good - Ill try to get one on the books before June 8th.
I will make a list up.

Got the stuff from Amazon for sewing and the freezer paper, rouge, & beeswax for leather. Did you order from Tandy, too?..because nothing has come yet.

FYI…the freezer paper is waxed on the back to use when doing messy stuff like dying that can soak through butcher paper and stain the tables. DO NOT use it for dye sub or you will ruin your piece or get wax all over the heat press. I’ve labeled the freezer paper roll.

Confirm. I volunteered to perform the grbl reconfig and rewire depending on when the gshield is available. I could work on this some this weekend for instance. I’m hesitant to pickup any parts because it looks like that’s already saturated :grinning:

I will bring an arduino with grbl shield and estop by Saturday morning.

You should have:
Rouge, Xactos, sharpening stone, Beeswax, Lacing needles, chip brushes, sandpaper, oil for the stone, needles, muslin bolts, freezer paper (check), Rubber Cement

In the tandy order we should have:
Wool buggers, rivets galore, leathercraft tool book, blades for skiver, stitching needles, harness needles (10pack 0 and 4) and the leather series books

buffers not buggers…little buggers.

No rubber cement…I think you nixed that.

You’re right - we had some in the room. Saved us the $5

I put an Inland Uno clone in the Shapeoko bin. If you need the Mega instead, I can swap it out.
