Plastic welding HDPE

Does Makerspace have plastic welder? looking to make HDPE molds for epoxy tables?

We have a hot glue gun. It’s a lot like MIG Welding.

We have an ultra-sonic welder, but it’s not been put into service.

Soldering iron, perhaps?

i’ve welded plastic in the past on cars and motorcycle parts using hot staples and a hot iron with a tip you feed filler rod through … a hot glue gun isn’t what I think of when thinking of welding plastic… it been a while i know things change… Im looking at making 38" x 88" x 4" mold, and several others that will be smaller. not sure a hot glue gun will be a sturdy weld for what i am making. i don’t want it coming apart ever.

what would it take to put it into service?

The Lemons team had one from Harbor Freight ca. '14/'15 seasons and attempted to patch the plastic fuel tank with it. I don’t know if it might still haunt the 'Space somewhere, and don’t know which version it was (hot air vs. iron)… @dallasmagna Chuck might know, if you bump into him, could ask…

thanks for that info…

I’ve seen a plastic welder on the specialty tool shelves in Automotive.
