Planer / molder

Has the woodshop ever considered buying a planer that is also capable of creating molding. The tool would pay for itself turning scrap lumber into useful molding. It also may save wear and tear on the multicam being used for the same purpose. Someone on Craigslist has a low hour Foley Belsaw 985 planer/molder for sale at what seems to be a very good price $1100. The link is https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/tls/d/planer-belsaw-985-very-heavy/6348399289.html. Ebay also has molding cutters that fit it for as low as $20 each.
I recently bought molding to go around my french doors for $.91 / ft. I think the price has at least doubled in the few years since I bought it last.

Can you explain this a little bit more, please?

I have known several people who owned those but never one who used it much as a moulder. I would’t think it would see enough use to warrant the space. These are made for hobbyist mostly and we would probably break it quickly with a bad setup.

If we want a great way to make small runs of molding, it is hard to beat a set of hollows and rounds…

Simple cove molding on a tablesaw.

Seen that before about 15 years ago. Never done it myself.

I have cut a circle on the tablesaw.

I haven’t tried it either. It might be fun to try it out. The description seems easy once the sled is built.

I think cove molding is one of the most elegant, simple and nicest ways to trim out projects.

I was going to do it for a dresser.
