Picking Up Where I Left Off - Nitrogen Laser Build

I’ve returned from my week in San Diego, where I was visiting my dad in the hospital. I left Plano hastily, so now I have to figure out where I left off.

Before I left, I sold some tickets on Eventbrite to pay for a nitrogen laser. So far, I have not received those funds. I believe that Ben, DMS Treasurer, has been out of town, too, and he would be handling that.

Various members of the group also were gathering and pre-fabricating various components. I need to know the status of those components.

I still need to schedule a day when we can all meet back and put together our first laser.

I couldn’t get my hands on any cost effective thick plastic. Daryl and I checked yesterday, so we still need plastic for the tube.

Pretty much any hollow tube with a quarter-inch wall would do. Prefer the inside diameter to be between 2 inches and 3 inches and the length between 18 inches and 36 inches.

I have received the funds for this project. Now, we just need to collect all the parts and put them together. The last I heard, Nick was not able to find acrylic for the tube as described in the meeting. However, we need only a tube sufficient to stand up to atmospheric pressure with a rough vacuum inside; I think 1/4-inch thick walls would be sufficient.

I need to spend a week or so confirming that we have all the necessary parts. When I’ve done that, I’ll schedule another session, so we can attempt to assemble our nitrogen laser.

If anyone has any more information they would like to share with the group, please let me know.

Thank you.
