Philosophy Meet Up 4-11-18

Here are a few topics I’m bringing to the Philosophy Meetup tonight.

Secondly,
The changing tactics in traffic police. Yesterday when I was driving I noticed a strange behavior of a traffic cop as I was stopped at a light in a left turn lane. I was in a line of about 4 cars and the cop pulled to the right of us and stopped beside each car as we waited for the turn signal to light. When he pulled up next to my vehicle, I could see that he was checks on the vehicles with is laptop. This felt like an invasion or false search. Kind of like having a rolling government check point where you have to have all your papers ready for the police not to harass you. Just left a bit of a bad feeling in my mind.

Didn’t realize, but it seems the reason the shrines to the burglar are a big deal is because there is an anti-knife campaign going around in London and this incident of self defense with a knife is being politicized as an example of a reason to take knives away. I thought in the first reading that it was a weird local issue, but it seems there is much more to the story.

Another interesting idea,

With Alan Dershowitz being in the news with Trump, I went looking for a more info on him and ran across this philosophical debate with Dennis Prager.
