PEI (Polyetherimide) print bed?

Does anyone have experience using this material on the print bed? From what I’ve read, it sounds like the ideal material - ABS sticks perfectly to it, eliminating the need for kapton tape or glue. It’s a little pricey though, and I’m wondering how long it lasts before needing replaced. I am gathering parts to build a reprap printer, and I think I may just try it.

Yes. Sticks very well.

Gets scratched-up though, when removing parts, and ends up ratty after
a while, so I deemed it non-permanent and continued with the PET tape.
It may be able to be sanded smooth again, repeatedly, which may be
acceptable.

The Lulzbot Taz printers use it now. I would imagine if you have the nozzle at the right height, and let parts cool before peeling them off the tape so you avoid gouging it, it would survive for a while. For about $16/sheet I wouldn’t say it’s that bad if you want to try it. Also this sheet doesn’t come with adhesive so you would need to get high temp adhesive.

The polyester tape we use on the Polyprinters work really well and is a lot cheaper.

I think it’s worth trying each method to see which works best for you.

The pei sheet works great with nylon too, whereas pet tape doesnt. Also the Pei sheet is not gauranteed to be flat. Need to solve that problem… Double sided tape??
