Pecan Wood Tree Takedowns

I’m going to be downing a few pecan trees. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do with the wood?

I’ll donate as much to the space as is desired. I have no need for the wood for smoking or heat, so I thought maybe there’d be a way I could make a few bucks back by selling it.

Anyone aware of options for dealing with all that pecan wood?

Well Pecan can be a very attractive wood for woodwork projects; however, I personally don’t have the space to properly dry it for that purpose.

Some Pecan porn…

You have to put wax on the ends and air dry wood for 1-year plus 1-year for every inch of thickness. Alternatively, you can take the logs to Woods of Mission Timber in Sanger and have them mill and kiln dry the lumber for you, but that takes investment so contact Wood World in Richardson and see if they’ll buy logs or kiln dry pecan from you.

Good luck.

What is the largest diameter tree? I’ve always thought it would be cool to have one of those portable/tow-able lumber mills.

Makes great smoker wood - I used the branches I cut of my seven trees for this.

I have a cousin that has one of those trailer wood mills. He bought it 2 years ago, it is amazing. But, still work. Cool Work!

Pecan makes an acceptable bow. If you have any pieces that are straight about 6 ft. and about 8" dia. or above you can wax the ends to prevent checking and sell them to people for bow staves.

Looks like they are taking down 2 pecans in my 'hood (not OP 'hood). Next Monday is bulk pickup.

It’s a pretty wood. I think it should turn well.

Where abouts DFW is this?

Just south of the Galleria.
