The weekly Tour Night description on our Meetup needs to be updated and PR Committee would like to hear your thoughts on what should be included and what you think draws people out to DMS. This week we’re also featuring a promo pic of Woodshop.
It currently reads:
Our weekly Tour Night is the best time to meet other Makers and get a tour of the Dallas Makerspace. The event is open to the public and starts at 7:00pm every Thursday.
A decked out woodshop. Top of the line laser cutters. 3D printers and an auto lift to work on you car. These are just a few of the pieces of equipment you can learn to use and then operate for your own personal or professional projects.
Be sure to bring any special projects that you would like to show off to the rest of the group. For more information, or if you would like to become a member of Dallas Makerspace, please see the DMS website: http://www.dallasmakerspace.com/
Do you think we could add weekend tour days? I see a lot more people here on Sunday afternoons than the other times I’m around.

Adding a weekend tour to the Meetup page would be no sweat at all and also a good indication as to whether or not the Meetup group still draws guests out. I’d really like to try this out and see.
Any tips from the seasoned marketing pro as to how to improve the general look and feel of our Meetup page and Event pages?

@NightRanger would you send me a link, please? The link in the last post goes to the DMS home page.

I found it. It would be good to include more committees. I think there’s something (video) in the shared drive that already does this.
Also, it might be good to change the .com to .org even though there’s a redirect.
I think what you wrote looks good, just add more about ceramics, sewing, glassworks, programming, electronics, etc. Maybe you could say something like, “If you’re a maker, look at all the things you can make” and bullet point the committees,
Thanks for doing this, @NightRanger!

FYI having people around is important for your dates, for instance someone to troubleshoot issues on maker manager. . That said, we have specifically asked people not to teach on tour nights because it was too chaotic and tour guides were interrupting classes. So having more members around working wouldn’t be good. One night a week is ok, in my opinion.

First I’ve heard of this. I figured it more depended on the class and teacher discretion if minor interruptions mattered.
Obviously it’s an issue with some types of classes, but others, not so much (like occasional thurs fiber classes for last few years we just work quietly for a moment and let the guide do their thang).
And what about non-committee classrooms? When I’ve taught wire jewelry on a thurs, the tour just passed by with a wave and a hey look at the interesting class happening.
Is this non-thurs class a new thing I’ve missed the memo on?

It was discussed informally during a beer n bitch. Totally non binding but recommended
Your fiber frolic in the big room isn’t a big deal. But having a jewelry class in that tiny spot was making it hard to show people around.

I’m with kyrithia. I always thought Thursday night classes were great to show tour guests and would’ve opted for more of them. Depends on the class though. JMO

I’m very interested in doing a weekend tour night option. Especially to gauge what sort of pull we can have with the meetup group.

The ca committee wrote this back in ‘18 probably not relevant but a starting point. I have others as well - I’ll see what I can find on my drive.

Thank you for that and I’d really appreciate looking at anything else!
If @Team_Creative_Arts would like to be featured in this or next week’s Tour Night Event, I’d be happy to post this or anything else you’d like.
I’m no longer the chair of ca I just have a ton of info on my google drive about it.
