Open Watch Party

A few people I know have shown interest in a movie I have, and Makerspace seems to be the best available place to show it. The movie is Something To Stand For. It was created by Mike Rowe and is now on a streaming platform I have.

This would also be an opportunity to get more people interested in attending Makerspace activities. I would like to know how I can set something like this up.

All members can just set up something on the calendar. Here is an example of a movie night that is similar.

Make sure it’s listed as an event (i.e., not a class).

If you open it to include non-members, remember this (and make sure any non-members sign the waiver at the kiosk):

Food for thought, there maybe some copyright issues.

We can set this up as a public event but we need to understand the rights for rebroadcast.

It looks like it’s part of angel guild, so we would need to understand if they require special licenses or fees for group viewings as events.

If you want to do it as a private event like Captain does with the movie nights then it doesn’t matter, that’s basically no different than if you have friends over to watch a movie.

Rights are usually only an issue if we are using the movie to promote our organization through attracting new members or making money off the event.

Considering it’s Mike Rowe and we are a makerspace I don’t anticipate he would have a problem, but we should ask if it’s something you want to publicly market for the makerspace.

Let me know how you want to proceed and I can help

I am in contact with the streaming service to see if there are any wrinkles with doing this.

I’m still confused about how to open my watch.
