Open Forge Scheduled for 6/10/18

'Bout like the title says. Should show up in 72 hours. We’re gonna make cheese slicers similar to this one:

Somehow, I don’t think we’ll get rained out this time.

You could expand this class by also doing a fancy slab beveling tool for the ceramics group. They are a taut wire cutter as well. Here is a very basic example.

handles for clay cut off wire would also fit the taut wire cutter as well.

Yep. Wire is pretty useful stuff.

My husband is thinking about becoming a member and is interested in blacksmithing. Is this a class for a beginner?

Absolutely. It’s all about the basics for those that need them and the folks who are a little more advanced will have fun too.

Perfect! Is the class outside? What materials would he need?

It is outside. The only thing he needs to bring is proper clothing (natural fiber or fire-resistant) and closed toed shoes (preferably leather). It’s likely to be hot so a hat doesn’t hurt. The details are available in the event listing on the calendar. It is members only and I’d recommend signing up as early as possible as they tend to fill up quickly. There is a suggested donation of $10 to the committee to help pay for materials and fuel for the forges.
