One-on-one sign off

Hi!

Are there any options to pay for a 1-on-1 sign off, we recently joined and have been scouting for some classes and have not been able to find anything yet, and the few we’ve found are sold out.

I’m really interested in laser, 3D, leather and auto.

My wife and I have a bit of a crazy schedule (I’m a firefighter and she’s a flight attendant) so I was interested in even covering a fee of needed to get signed off, so we can make the most of our membership.

Thank you for your help in advance!

3D and laser classes are mostly on line at

https://learn.dallasmakerspace.org/

The online classes are often prerequisites for in person classes. You must pass with 100% for the class to count.

Thank you. I’m aware of the online classes, but I was referring to the actual sign-off, in person class.

Here’s a brand new Laser class:

I noticed this in the #calender channel on Discord.

@Team_Laser hi.

I’m an idiot. I submitted a registration for the laser class on 12/4 and accidentally cancelled it because I misread the confirmation date as the class date.

I apologize. Is there any way I can be added back to the roster?

Sorry – the Calendar is a one-and-done cancellation. That’s why it warns you about cancelling.

Well… learn that the hard way!

Thank you

Do you know if there is anything we can use without sign-off. I’ve been a member for about 2 weeks and haven’t been able to go since most of the stuff needs a sign-off.

So there are 2 areas – Woodshop is the one that has all the machines in it. Just outside of that are All The Tables, and there’s a wall of battery operated tools. You can use those tools, and those tables.

You didn’t mention glass, so no worries if it’s not your speed, but I’d be happy to arrange a time with you and/or your wife to teach the torches. I’m at the space pretty regularly. I remember how frustrating it is the first month until you can get in some courses, and with your jobs I’m sure that adds an extra layer of difficulty. Feel free to send me a PM if you want to set something up!

I saw! I’m working that day unfortunately!

I did notice that it’s specific to the lift. Does that mean that we can use the rest of the tools without a sign off? I do need to install a leveling kit on my truck but only need a floor jack really.

Thank you!

Thank you! I’ll share it with my wife! I know she was interested in some glasswork!

AFAIK, the lift is the only automotive tool that requires training.

Also, be aware that the lift is restricted to 6000 pounds. So depending on the size of your truck, lift might not even be an option.

EDIT: Our tools list shows (most?) of our tools and clarifies which require training. It may not include hand tools unless they specifically require training. In the case of online training it typically includes a link. It may not be 100% up to date but it’s real darn close.

Yes, your current level of membership allows you to use the entirety of the auto area minus the lift
