A few weeks ago I was scrounging for scraps of hardwood in the woodshop trash bin and found a few small pieces of tooling board smaller than the size of my hand. I’ve found these are great for carving small items and am hoping someone has some more small pieces I can persuade them to give me.

If this is what I think it is, it’s a very curious material. Never worked with it other than as scrap. Had no idea what it was.
It’s great stuff! Carves, saws, files, and sands about like basswood but is hard and keeps edges. Literature on it says that it is dimensionally stable. I laid out a design on it in pencil and then Sharpie, then cut it out really easy.
