Leather
Leather tool request (back copy) purchase approved Leather is going strong with the intro classes. People want project classes. Turn out has been exponential. Organization of tools has helped with consumable cost and tracking.
Sewing
Concerns over honorariums being denied (pattern reading). Program is growing stronger. Embroidery class request by Ruby (Chris Agreed to do one)
Fibers (not present but via text)
Small list of supplies for the next class or two (Jeannie is working on a list) costs working with the supply fee. Desire to have fancier felting needle shapes ($25), Rigid heddle build on the horizon, CA will purchase wood and sold in kits to interested members. Growing strong and diversifying offerings has gone really well.
Drawing and Painting (not present but via text)
Ray is stepping down to work on life/work balance and to dedicate time to his own art but will remain as a leader for drawing and painting. Requested watercolor containers (he wants pill boxes because they are funny). Turnout on classes has been excellent. Drawing and painting classes growing.

Honorariums and important things involving your dolla billz
Writing solid learning objectives
Amelia and Nicole offered any help that anyone would want writing curriculum if they wanted
Think tools and skills
When submitting a class come up with definable expectations of learning that the individual will have.
Adult learners
What’s the take-away
SIG and Work nights – beware of wording when you are submitting for honorarium
Fibers has done an excellent job growing skills with every class – when creating a group meetup think about what specific skill can be grown. Bitta mentioned she never knows who will be at the SIG meetings last meeting she intended to teach a specific skill but ended up teaching all intro skills
W-9 *needs to be on file
People to sign up before the class
Amelia worked this weekend to help others cut checks, she offered reassurance that money is on the way to those who have followed procedure, CA has lost 3 teachers because of the frustration, we are trying to help communication and anyway possible.

Non-member use needs to be decided
This is the combination of several different suggestions offered on talk – we are free to come up with our own guidelines – however I don’t believe that’s the right way to go about things.
Red – Dangerous to user (training/certification needed) – Training Required – Dangerous Machine 18+ - NO GUEST USAGE
Orange – Training Required – Dangerous Machine 18+ No Guest Usage
Yellow – Mostly considered dangerous – Training Required – Use with Caution – Damage to machine and/or you is possible 14+ Guests can use
Green – Free for all – No training required – Use common sense – don’t use a tool for what it wasn’t intended – No age limit – Guests can use
Tools we need to decide on

Printer
Sewing Machines
Embroidery

Fibers

Other….
Chris is on the team who will be rolling out this program. Chris educated us about this and without a concrete plan in place we said we would wait to classify the tools. We had a good discussion about the physical risks/replacement costs/learning curve of several of our tools. We said we would wait till later to implement because we want to make sure it matches with the DMS rubric.

Communication with classroom committee
Mark is moving but the plan to break ground and begin building will take place within the next two weeks or so (hoping). Everyone is excited about it. Steve said he wants to make sure the printer stays under CA. We talked about loosing 5” of the room to make the framing easier – we agreed to do that. Room will be “maker made”, it should be a source of great pride, we all want to see this be an awesome success.

October/November Goals
Finish inventory and number system
Nicoles task
Break ground on the Annex
Woo
Encourage more classes
Increase Outreach
Wood Show – December – January
Wasteland weekend showcase Feb-April

Reflection
Open House
10X10 Show
Takeaways were a huge success, voiced concerns about the amount of work to return (talked it over), CA did lots of activities, Nicole felt that scheduling was a bit of an issue, Nicole spent quite a bit of CA money getting ready for Open House (people were ok with that), Open House was a success, 10X10 move the “sticking out pieces” to the small hallway

Comments/Concerns

Honorariums are a concern, Nicole needs to give people jobs, We need to come up with a vision of the room (sh wants to talk to Danny and she thinks it needs to be talked about), people were worried about making sure short sitting tables were available, lookinto a place called Volunteer Center in Dallas to assist in developmet, Bitta is going to talk to Jorge about needles and thread weights to order, Cameo needs software (damnit), Ruby wants to see us reach out to other organizations for donations she volunteered to help, Login issues with SewArt on the computer (demo version), envelope system implemented

Talk with David after the meeting:
He wants to see CA grow and become organizationally stronger, he wants to take shopping off my lap and implement some procedures for requests, excitement, sweetness, lox and cream cheese, general goodwill towards the growth and development of CA and DMS as a whole.

Afterthoughts by Nicole
Excited for the year to come. It’s apparent to me that I need a more concrete plan on the development of the CA room after the Annex is built and things are shifted around. I can’t wait to get the Annex built, I’m worried about the tone and content of talk to new members, this meeting voiced lots of umbrella concerns of DMS as a whole (and also solutions).

Always get’s me there (especially lox & bagels).

Thank you for an excellent synopsis of the meeting. I’m pretty proud of what CA is doing today and where it is going, but all the credit goes to you and your team/tribe.

maybe i’m being thick but isn’t this

a color option?
you can even use color and italics…

Of course, this button only puts in the tag, you have to change the # to bbcoded (I think) color.
This whole sentence is read.

I see what you did there.

@Kentamanos I’m a very bad speller but I assure you I usually know how to spell the months (embarrassed)

@jast my world has just grown exponentially

Now you’ve gone and brought attention to it!

I figure typo on something like that in any event…hehe.
