NO MASKS REQUIRED AT DMS FOR COVID (Message to non-members that can't see member section)

While that was indeed the rule, I’m pretty sure we didn’t enforce it in the situation you’ve hypothised. It was designed to counter the equally ludicrous statement of the mask-adverse who wanted to wander through the Space unmasked holding a drink, claiming that they were going to take a drink any second now.

Following the CDC guidelines is the only defensible course of action. When it’s too strict for some they’ll complain. When it’s too relaxed for some they’ll complain. Nobody will ever be all on the same page at the same time but we have to pick a page somewhere. We can’t say trust in the science when we agree with what it says and then later say don’t trust the science because it doesn’t say what we want it to. Overall I’m pretty satisfied with how DMS has handled the pandemic for the turd sandwich it’s been.

Yeah, I trust the science much, much more than any politician. However, medical science had made some bad guesses over the decades, so I can understand why some folks don’t want to trust it. In my mind, we’ve had a good track record with vaccines, though, so I’m good with that.

Agree,

Follow the official guidance was a better solution than unlimited incidental rules. It also lessened the “policing” jerk behavior. As the time I used the space it wasn’t that bad. I’d love to say it was all in following the science, but this was some of the most politicized and honestly jacked around with science I’d ever seen. But, we are in all good numbers at this point when it comes to COVID. Just another historic moment in our lives to add to the counter.

The next question is how to bring membership back up. I know it is going to hurt a lot of feeling to see the space busy again. not getting walk in access to nearly every tool without having to wait. But, I’m sure the financials are seeing the loss revenue for lower membership.

Unfortunately, local Mom and Pop underdogs bore the brunt while some of their big box competition and Amazon dominated; blame the wildly unfair “non-essential” classifications for that.

The jury is still out on the damage done to children. Remote learning was a dismal failure for many and socialization did not happen with kids stuck at home.

Long before the pandemic, there had been discussions about what kind of event might kill the Space. Many mentioned the 9-11 attacks. I thought that if the price of fuel went back up to $4 a gallon, the number quitting because it was too expensive to drive the long distance may get too high; we are about to test that if it lasts. We are also about to see what inflation does to the “I cannot afford it” quitter numbers.

With the crazy number of Karen and Kyle tantrums/assaults being videoed, I’d say plenty of adults had dismal failures in socialization.

You know what they say about behavior on the Internet. With the lockdown, some forgot about how to behave in real life…

And it feels like a lot forgot how to drive.
