While traveling the country we have taken note of some of the more fun electronics surplus stores - ones where you’re free to browse, have unique items, and are overall enjoyable to be at. Here’s our list thus far (and yes, it’s small):
Places we have been to:
Apex - Sun Valley, CA
American Science & Surplus - West Chicago, IL
Electronics Parts Outlet - Houston, TX
Skycraft Parts & Surplus - Orlando, FL
You Do It Electronics - Boston, MA (Believe they closed shop)
Ones we haven’t personally been to but are on our list:
Vetco Electronics - Seattle, WA
Electronics Plus - San Rafael, CA
Anchor Electronics - San Jose, CA
An addition that isnt electronics but is the most retail friendly T-Slot company I’ve seen (they cut extrusions at 3:30PM for me):
The T-Slot Store - Denver, CO
American Science & Surplus closed their Milwaukee Ave West Chicago, IL location but still have the suburban location.
Midwest Surplus Electronics (937) 879-2250 501 W Main St Fairborn, OH 45324 is almost a Tanner’s clone. Fairborn is a Dayton suburb north of the Wright-Patteson Air Force base. Be sure to spend a day or two at the Air Force Museum.
And Marlin P. Jones 8380 Resource Drive West Palm Beach, FL 33404
Well, their building is brick and mortar and I think they actually have a walk up address but I think it’s effectively a will call only arrangement. I don’t think they have any kind of showroom. It’s mostly just a large frigging warehouse.
If you ever find yourself in Houston you should check out Electronics Parts Outlet. Here is a video tour video from Todd Tuckey of TNT Amusements when me and some friends took him to check it out while at the Houston Arcade Expo. Also included a link to photos I took when visiting them the first time while attending the show in 2022.
