Guys doing a NFC embedded ring on Kickstarter are offering 50 packs of an older KS design, made up of failed QA (cosmetic) rings. I have sent in a request for apack or two, and will update if we get a reply in the affirmative.

Those are actually really cool designs.
This would really help getting inside with an armful of crap without having to fumble for my key fob
They have responded, and weāve replied with their requested social media posts to verify weāre who we say we are.
Which has resulted in thisā¦

They asked for Unicorn Poop, they got Unicorn Poop.

Hahahaā¦ Great Minds! Seriously ~ Thanks for the headās up! Iām not in a position to be a big spender; but, Iām definitely eyeballing their 2nd level (10 pounds / about 15 dollars) pledge for their current project!
OK, hereās the deal:
The rings are free, but they will be charging for shipping/handling. Minimum order of 50 rings costs 60 pounds (so roughly $93 US, 100 rings are 70 pounds ($109), etc. We have passed the vetting process so weāre good to go to place an order, but I canāt afford to front or donate the shipping costs. Also, the conditions of the āsaleā specifically bar any resale of the rings, so we canāt recoup the cost of shipping bu selling the rings to DMS members.
The explanation of what we would be getting follows:
Grab yourself some QA Fail 2013 Rings for free!
The QA Rings can have one or more of the below issues which made them fail our QA:
- ScratchesColor / Style we decided not to retail (some have
rainbowsā¦)
- One side of the ring has a faulty NFC tag.
- Slightly unrefined outer radius.
- Slightly unrefined comfort fit
The rings are provided in random sizes and styles.
These rings are provided with no warranty and as such no returns or refunds can be granted.
These rings must not be resold. [Emphasis added by me] Each purchase will be vetted prior to shipping. It is fine to give these rings out for free at shows/events and to members of communities.
Because of the way our online store works we canāt set static shipping rates for this item so the actual price shown is basically the Shipping Fees and Admin costs associated with dealing with/packing these rings.

I wouldnāt mind buying a few to play with before I decide on doing a NFC implant in my other hand. I donāt normally wear rings but it would be fun to play with.
The conditions of the āsaleā specifically prohibit selling them. 2nd to last paragraph, first line.
What about an initial āgroup purchaseā? Put a minimum amount each member/committee can contribute ($5 or $10, perhaps)ā¦ We wouldnāt be āresellingā them, we would just be pooling our resources to be able to afford to get them shipped. At roughly $109, they would be just a smidgen more than a dollar each - that would have to be pooled together prior to sending them one payment for shippingā¦ Itās definitely tempting - just to play with 'emā¦
However, those interested in participating in the āgroup buyā (if Paul thinks that would be OK), should do so with the understanding that there is always a chance that the product may not be worth the price - even at ājust over a buck eachāā¦

Iāll take a couple, but have no interest in administering the collection/distribution of money/rings. Just let me know if/who/when to pay.
Edit: couple = 2
