Next Class for Colchester metal lathe?

I need a class for the Colchester lathe this week or as soon as possible. I have some parts that I need to turn.

I normally teach the class, but have been busy on other things. No class is required, so my suggestion is to start with the MIT videos on the lathe you can find

https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Machine_Shop_Committee#External_Sites

then you can view the slides I have for the class from

No formal training is required to use the metal lathe, so this may be all you need to get started. If you want some hands on help, please repost after watching and reading the above material and someone will be able to help you.

The lathe does not require training. You can view the material on the wiki to get yourself acquainted with it, and try some simple pieces.

You might also want to check out Tubal Cain on YouTube for additional live-action video.

I have watched some of the videos and my son has watched all of them. We have also read the class PDF handouts. Is there more to do?

How comfortable are you with the process? If not, I suggest watching ALL of the MIT lathe videos, then we can arrange some time to help you.

My son is planning on attending the Bridgeport class Tuesday morning so if any body is up at DMS around 2:30pm when it is over we would welcome any help, suggestions or training.
