Happy to report that out new X-Carve baby CNC is moving right along. Kevin @keoliver and Jeff @jeffhess are busy adding the finishing touches to the mechanical and electrical aspects. HB @got_tools finished the new 48" x 48" table for the X-Carve this afternoon. It will be place next to the Wood Peckers slab mill in the assembly area thanks to the generosity of Julie @Julie-Harris and Vince @Vincent that are both tag teaming @Team_Logistics (in your day job, they would be known as facilities).
The Train the Trainer Program is coming soon thanks to Kevin @keoliver. Keep in mind that although the Wood Shop is the custodian of the new baby CNC, please think of it as being owned by all of the DMS Committees. Get together and think of great and fun classes that your area can put on. Wood Shop will support your classes in any way needed.
We do want all of the teachers to approach the physical aspects of running the machine in the same way. This will allow students to quickly learn new skills without being confused by different way to approach running the machine.
We expect that the DMS store headed by Julie @Julie-Harris will be stocking most of the goodies you might need to fully enjoy the baby CNC. Wood, end mills, etc. If your area is teaching Make and Take classes that students might want to produce later, consider asking Julie to stock the materials that might be needed. After all, Home Depot isn’t open 24/7 like DMS is. A great example is the pen kits being stocked for the wood lathe classes.
Lots of photos are coming soon. Here are few links to get you started on both how to use, and what you could make with your new X-Carve baby CNC. Think of all of the awesome holiday gifts that are in your future.
Common question: Can it make juice grooves on my cutting board?
Answer: Better than you ever could by hand.
The software we will be teaching:
The software is webbed and free to use on your own Windows, Lixux, or OSX computer. It is web browser based so you will need an internet connection during use.
You will be given access to the Easel Pro features, after 30 days is will revert to Easel Normal edition. This allows you to do most operations with primary exception of V-Carve lettering for signs.
Just Google Easel Software for more videos.
Will be back soon with pcs and more information. If you’re curious, just walk over to Wood Shop and it will be out by the big slab mill. Please thank the members mentioned above for all of their hard work getting this project launched in a record breaking time-frame.
Be back soon with more info…
