No preference as a mod.
I can see benefits both ways as a member… Some members “follow” certain threads in hopes to catch updates, while others make a point to not follow older and/or longer threads believing they may either no longer be relevant and/or off topic after a while. Either way, I have no doubt that your update is much appreciated! 
If you’re cool with it Ian I’ll likely come shadow or sit in on a class or two to get more familiar so I can help in the future.
Not really my rodeo, but from observation:
I like the way @dryad2b Beth does the kiln announcements, with a title like “October 2017 Kiln News” and then update it as things progress. I think that would work well here: “October 2017 Woodshop Basics Classes” and then add to this post as new ones are added. Next month, start the “November 2017 Woodshop Basics Classes”, and so on…
