New member at Dallas maker space

Hey I’m a new member at Dallas maker space and I just currently got in would someone be willing to tell me where I can speak with one of the leaders at Dallas maker for me to have a discussion with them.

Welcome to DMS! I’m sure @Julie-Harris can answer any questions you may have. She’s very helpful and a member of the DMS Board of Directors.

What do you need assistance with?

just remember, everyone in a leadership position at the DMS is a volunteer, so your might not get the answers in the timeframe you like. or the answer you want.

Yes I already met with her she was the one who showed me around on tour though I am unaware of what she’ll be available in and what would be a good time to speak with her

So ask her. Send her a private message.

I’m just currently looking for something to get into because I have decided to join DMS to develop myself a skill set or skills

Ok that’s fine whatever gets my foot in the door

you don’t need the board of directors for that.

what are you looking to do

Perhaps you could look over the list of committees and see if anything piques your interest.

Pick a committee that is aligned with your first interest and get involved. You will find many people willing to help new people getting started. We were all there at one time. Beware, you may pick up lots of new hobbies.

Ok I was just wondering

Ok thanks for the help

Thanks you

By the way do I have to sign up for the committee on its website or do I just show up for it?

I guess the question was answered then.

let’s go home boys.

Because DMS is volunteer-run, self-service is the primary way to get things done as a member. So long as you follow the rules for an area, you can for the most part just show up and use the area/equipment. If you want to get involved you’ll need to reach out to a committee, attend a meeting, contact someone on the Discord.

Ok thanks if I run into any issues I can ask for help right?

Even though I just joined will there be someone in that field that I’m interested in who can teach me and educate me on what I want to learn?

One of the very beast way to get involved, active, up-to-speed is to attend committee meetings for areas you are interested in. These meetings are posted on our event calendar:

https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/

And meeting minutes are (supposed to be) posted here (until they aren’t):

https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Category:2021_Meetings

=======================

Also, all new members should have been pointed to this at some point early on:

And there are new member orientation things on the event calendar as well. I strongly suggest you take advantage of them…good place to ask all sorts of questions.
