Hi there! I’m new to the site/space so I’m sorry if this isn’t what this post board is for but I thought I’d try! So I’m trying to build a desk with 2 pieces of cedar live edge wood that are 1ft by 8ish ft each, and I’d like to put them side by side to create a flat long work space 2ft wide. I think it’s “joining” and “planing” that I need. I’d love to pay for this to be done since I don’t have the wood working experience to use the machines, if somebody could help. Thank you!
I’d recommend jointing them and planing to the same thickness, then using a biscuit joiner to connect the halves.
If they are very thick, the “Domino” could be used to connect them.
A jointer is used to flatten and make perpendicular two adjacent surfaces on a piece of wood.
A planer is used to flatten and make parallel two opposing surfaces of wood.
I’m heading up to the space on Tuesday night and would be happy to give you a hand with that
@zacharymarkson please note that the wood shop is mostly closed and will probably be closed Tuesday night.
Is it the whole wood shop, or just the tools that run on the Felder? I should still be able to give them a hand with the drill press/domino, and a TON of hand sanding.
Just felder based tools. Everything you mentioned is fine.
Just trying to make sure people know so they don’t feel like they wasted time traveling out to a closed shop.
thanks for letting me know
