New Class Location - OFFSITE

We have had 2 event requests that did not fit on the DMS standard calendar location list.

The class location of “Offsite” has been added, to facilitate requests for events that are

  1. Of interest to DMS members
  2. Not generally being advertised
  3. Not occurring at DMS

Events that would be declined

  1. I am washing my sneakers at a laundromat - fails on rule #1
  2. The State Fair of Texas - fails on rule #2

These events are more difficult to add because the correct location needs to be made clear (IE people show up at DMS expecting to be at The State Fair of Texas) and that means editing them in Eventbrite and Meetup.

I teach classes and workshops through the Creative Arts Center of Dallas
(the folks that donated the wide format printer to DMS.) The CAC is a
non-profit like DMS but I am paid by them to teach these and the classes
aren’t free. I’ve hesitated to promote these via DMS because I wasn’t sure
if that was a conflict of interest or not. For the sake of clarity can we
get a policy/procedure statement on if that kind of thing would be allowed
and under what stipulations?

The idea of Offsite is not to cross promote.

CAC is promoting their classes. That would have rule #2 in play, IE events are being advertised elsewhere.

The concern is that the events on the DMS calendar become “lost” because we have 500 other non DMS events filling the DMS calendar.

What is possible? Promote these events in Talk or post them on the DMS Facebook account. Most FB posts get 400+ views.

Also, a single event equivalent to the DMS open house on January 24th. Not all events though.

I hope this clarifies things better.

I hope that DMS would not withhold honorarium if it finds that a class at DMS (or Offsite) has been advertised elsewhere. I try to advertise my DMS classes on my Meetup groups, for example.

Your classes are hosted at DMS. They are not in the Offsite category.

Any additional advertising for classes hosted at DMS is welcome.
