New Calendar Events Display Kiosk next to water fountain

@heyheymama prompted me to get this beast setup. It isn’t complete yet, but I wanted to at least get some action out of it now that the touchscreen came in.

It is setup very similar to the way I setup the RFID Member Info Portal. I had to edit a few files to get it to rotate the display and startup the Calendar page in Kiosk mode. I still need to build a box for the RPi3, get the touchscreen working, and hide the power wire. I’m hoping that the Calendar updates might make a custom page for this to land on.

More info about this project can be found at: Event Display Kiosk - Dallas Makerspace

OMGosh.
You set the display to show the day’s Classrooms!!!
Thank you so much for creating a wiki page so the knowledge is saved for all time.

The web page that is showing is the normal https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/ page, in Chromium “kiosk” mode. I remoted in and clicked on each of today’s classes to show the short description and classroom.

I’m hoping that eventually there will be a custom page created for this that will have the days classes automatically expanded and perhaps a map of the space at the bottom of the screen… and have it auto refresh every 15 minutes or so. Creating that page will be up to the software guys that are working on the Calendar app.

Thanks to @Draco and @HankCowdog, the touchscreen on the Event Display Kiosk is working.

The project page has the updates of what needed to be done.

Where can you see which classes you have enrolled in?

Once one has logged in they can visit https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/attending

You will not be able to login at the display. It is just for display of classes and not personal inquiry. I suggest using your phone or a workstation in the common room and there you can login and goto the above link.

The kiosk appears to have crashed.

I did not want to cycle the power without knowing more about it.

@Bill its the same setup as the voting rights machine. One should be able to ssh into it to reboot or recover remotely.

From what I can tell its at 192.168.204.88 and layer 7 is responsive but usual pi login is not working so it needs to be joined to the domain and added to prlxmonitoring so infrastructure can manage the device.

You should be able to just unplug them and plug them back in …also, did you happen to take a pic of the crash?

No, I walked by and noticed just the desktop.

Edit: I cycled the power and it is good again after remembering Stan telling me it is like the AD Kiosk which I have to reboot from time to time.
