A startup is developing a new type of input device that is intended to provide more precise and rapid control in user interfaces. The new device, called “Flow,” has several means of accepting input, including a twist ring, haptic touch and gesture recognition.
“Designers Are Ditching The Mouse For The “Flow” 3D Motion Touch Controller”
I’m glad that someone is working on user interface issues. Usually, people just ignore the inefficiencies in whatever they are using, accepting those limitations as just the way things are. I don’t believe that “Flow” is the perfect solution, but it is a good effort.

The free space gesture part looks a a little like the Leap Motion Controller https://www.leapmotion.com/…
It will be interesting to see how well the Flow becomes integrated to various applications. I tried out a Leap shortly after it was first released, but was a little disapointed. I found that it didn’t really help with the applications I commonly use, and I found it difficult to control for the available games and demo applications. Without providing a sense of touch, it was difficult to move accurately. Or maybe that was just learning curve like the early days of mice, when the required hand eye coordination took a while for people to internalize. In any case, it was very cool to see how well it could simultaneously measure orientation and postion of both hands and all 10 fingers in real time… And it was cool to imagine how it could be used…
And for Flow, it’s good to see a heavier emphasis on touch…
