This hands on course will provide credit towards the Network+ training course and is a Prerequisite to the Information Security courses. Upon completion of this lab and the companion lecture class students will be able demonstrate solid understanding of the OSI model, Wired and Wireless networking, Packet Routing and Switching, Subnetting, Packet Monitoring and Diagnostics, Physical Network Segmentation, and Networking Protocols.

Attendees should have working experience with Linux(i.e. bash, ssh, vim), Git SCM, and Ansible. Basic knowledge of networking is not a requirement but preferred.

Assignment

Use available resources to build a personal lab environment with GNS3, Ansible playbooks, and robot unit tests.

Acceptance Criteria:

  • Router should have Syslog, ntp, dhcp, snmp traps, and snmp walking enabled
  • ELK and Moloch instances should be able to report on incoming data from routers
  • Config files, playbooks, an unit tests should be posted to a github repo
  • Router should be able to route packets for devices attached to the network
  • Network should use a Class A IPv4 Network with a Private subnet range of /24
  • Network should implement IPv6 addressing
  • Network should be auto configurable (dhcp options)
  • Network should have internal DNS servers that all ip addresses resolve with for each subnet (ie dhcp-x.subnet-y.tld)
  • Network should have WAN link to an AS routed network
